What Can Reiki Heal?
The Five Principles of Reiki
Why Practice Reiki?
Reiki is a Japanese healing technique that channels universal life energy to promote physical, emotional, and spiritual healing. The word "Reiki" comes from two Japanese words:
-
"Rei", meaning "universal" or "spiritual wisdom," and
-
"Ki", meaning "life force energy," the energy that flows through all living beings.
The fundamental principle of Reiki is simple: the practitioner uses their body as a channel to draw universal energy through the crown chakra and direct it through their hands to the patient. This flow of energy works in one direction only—from the universe to the patient—making the practice safe. Practitioners don’t use their own energy or absorb negative energy from the patient.
Since Reiki channels universal energy, it is limitless and transcends space and time. This means Reiki can be sent over distances or even directed toward past or future events. At first, it’s hard to believe, including myself, but after experiencing distant Reiki healing and distant Reiki channel opening, I could really feel the reality of its core.
As my practice deepened, I began to notice more during sessions—colors, lights, images, and even energetic blockages in the patient. These insights can offer valuable guidance for the healing process. After each session, if the patient wishes, I take time to share what I’ve observed, explaining any energy imbalances or areas that may require further attention.
Additionally, I may suggest simple self-healing practices to support their ongoing healing process. These could include meditation techniques, affirmations, or other methods that resonate with the patient’s needs. The goal is to empower the patient to continue their journey of healing beyond the session.
Reiki is not only about the energy exchanged during a session but also about fostering a deeper connection to one’s own energy. Whether in-person or through distance healing, Reiki sessions are always gentle and non-invasive, with patients remaining fully clothed and no physical touch required.
Reiki is bigger than what we mostly learn in Europe. There are many different types of Reiki, including Reiki Jin Kei Do, Reiki Buddho Enersense, Egyptian Reiki, Celtic Reiki, Angelic Reiki, Reiki Shipunden, Reiki Terra Mai, Reiki Rakku Kei, and more. These different techniques and aspects of the art of healing through channeling universal energy are all incredibly powerful, and each is as effective as the others. There is no one better than the other.
After learning and mastering many types of Reiki, I’ve come to understand that we can see them as different tools for healing. The most important thing is to use the tools we’ve learned. In fact, a master of five different types of Reiki who never practices may be less effective than a Level 1 practitioner of one type of Reiki who practices daily for a long time. The key is regular practice, consistency, and dedication to the process.
While learning different types of Reiki helps expand our understanding of this healing art, it doesn’t necessarily make us better healers. The true power of Reiki comes from the practice itself—how much time, energy, and love we dedicate to healing ourselves and others.
Reiki is incredibly versatile and can address a wide range of issues, including:
-
Physical: Chronic pain, injuries, illnesses, and even recovery from surgery.
-
Emotional: Stress, anxiety, depression, trauma, and grief.
-
Energetic: Clearing blockages, balancing chakras, and aligning the energy body.
-
Lifestyle Issues: Addiction recovery, improving focus, and fostering personal growth.
While Reiki does not replace medical treatment, it complements conventional therapies, enhancing their effectiveness by promoting relaxation and restoring the body's natural balance.
The Five Principles of Reiki are simple yet profound guidelines that help practitioners live a balanced and harmonious life. They are:
-
Just for today, I will not be angry. Letting go of anger helps maintain inner peace.
-
Just for today, I will not worry. Releasing worry allows us to live more fully in the present moment.
-
Just for today, I will be grateful. Practicing gratitude cultivates a positive mindset and helps us appreciate life’s blessings.
-
Just for today, I will do my work honestly. Integrity in our actions creates a sense of purpose and fulfillment.
-
Just for today, I will be kind to every living thing. Compassion and kindness towards all beings fosters peace and connection.
These principles serve as a daily reminder to live with intention, grounding our practice of Reiki in compassion, balance, and mindfulness.
At its heart, Reiki is about the flow of energy, the power of intention, and the capacity for healing. It offers profound benefits:
-
A deep sense of peace and relaxation.
-
Increased self-awareness and spiritual connection.
-
The ability to contribute to your own healing and help others.
Reiki’s universality lies in its simplicity and accessibility—anyone can learn and practice it. As practitioners deepen their connection to Reiki, they often discover a profound transformation within themselves, gaining clarity, compassion, and a renewed sense of purpose.
Whether you’re seeking to heal, grow, or simply find calm amidst life’s chaos, Reiki provides a pathway to a more balanced and harmonious life.
